KIDS AND FAMILY FUN

Your whole family will enjoy visiting our welcoming and lively area. There are plenty of things to see and experience for every age. Below are just a few of the many things you'll want to catch while here.

 

1. Great Valley Museum of Natural History - The Great Valley Museum is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt foundation dedicated to providing science and natural history information to adults and children of all ages through classes, programs and exhibits. Experience nature in a hands-on way. There is much to see and do while here.

 

2. Sierra Railroad Dinner Train - Hide your belongings ‘cause outlaws are hiding out along the railroad! When your depot is located in “The Cowboy Capital of the World,” you’re bound to come across a cowpoke or two, especially on most Saturday’s throughout the year. And now, the Wild West comes alive aboard the Sierra Railroad during this luncheon showdown, complete with western characters, outlaws and a gunfight. These trips are fun for children and adults. The railroad also has the Great Pumpkin Express in October that takes your family to a pumpkin patch and the Christmas Train which includes a visit from Santa and his elves!

 

3. Castle Air Museum – This unique museum represents history in a way the whole family can share with our awe-inspiring majestic warbirds. To stand under the wing of the Convair RB-36H Peacemaker or the Boeing B-52, you can imagine the sky around the bombers filled with enemy fighters! The site also includes an indoor museum and café.

 

4. Oakdale Cheese and Specialties - Come and see how cheese is made and have a "gouda day!" Watch the cheese making process through view windows. Their specialty store features a wide variety of cheeses, deli items, authentic gifts and a bakery, which produces, German style cheesecakes, cheese spreads, fresh breads, etc. Free tours - Picnic area - Petting Zoo - Seasonal Fruit stand. Open every day: 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., year around. RV's, tour buses and bikers welcome. Free sampling!

 

5. McHenry Museum - McHenry Museum is home to many historical artifacts from the early days of Stanislaus County and the City of Modesto. Originally the city library, the building was given to the city of Modesto in 1912 by the McHenry family and later turned into the museum you see today. Many of the museums exhibits are changed regularly so there is always something new to see. The museum is on the National Register of Historic Places.

 

6. Vintage Faire Mall - The only enclosed, super-regional mall in California’s Central Valley, Vintage Faire continues to solidify its position as the area’s preeminent shopping destination.
