Connecting Stanislaus is a community based technology access initiative. Created by, for, and with community sectors.
In the spring of 2000, the Connecting Stanislaus Steering Committee was formed to determine the availabily and use of advanced communication technology within the county. This committee consisted of approximately 120 representatives from seven sectors of the community (agriculture, business, community-based organizations, education, government, healthcare and technology). From this committee, six primary initiatives were identified.
Realizing that many of the founding champions to the Connecting Stanislaus initiative had transitioned in one way or another during the first five years of implementation inspired a return to the seven sectos in 2007 and a reassessment of the sucess and validity of the strategy.
Over a 12 month period, County staff and members of the Connecting Stanislaus Steering Committee sought out community leaders and inquired regarding successes, opportunities, and where the initiative ought to aspire next. From this process came the new Connecting Stanislaus Strategic Plan.
